Our daughter wants to do a painting canvas party for her 13th birthday. She picked a picture but I am unsure how to go about doing it. Should I freehand one and then trace it onto the canvases with carbon paper?
Hi Pam! Which design does she want to do? Yes you would use Carbon paper to transfer it to the canvas. You would just print out one of the templates and use the Carbon paper to trace it on all the canvases. Some painting designs do require you to trace after the background is applied, it just depends on the paining. But if you click on the title above the traceable, it will direct you to the tutorial with instructions. Also, yes you can free hand a template if you’d like to make it larger, or you can scale the PDF file up. I hope this helps! If not feel free to reply here or direct message me. Enjoy the painting party!
My mom is 82 years old and just started painting last year in an art therapy group at an assisted living facility and she loves it! She could do it all day. I try to find simple pictures that I can trace for her to paint on her own in her room. She has tried to do a barn but it did not come out very good. I am going to show her your technique for the barn. I think she will be able to do it and it will look good. And the way you did the trees looks easy and comes out great. I’m going to print out a few of the other drawings too. I just need to watch the tutorials for them too! Thank you for sharing.
Susie that is wonderful that your mother has taken up painting as therapy! I really hope she likes the barn tutorial! There is a printable for it too, as I’m pretty sure you’ve seen! Good luck and thank you for sharing your beautiful story with me!
I recently went to a pay paint party and was disappointed that no instructions were given, just a cut out to trace and a pic of completed product.. was truly disappointed… I had HOSTED one a few years ago for fun with my friends and used a picture that even I could read the instructions to everyone, so I think that you providing instructions is GREAT! Enjoyed your website.. won’t be using one of your pictures time, due to friends want african American woman and guys want a male, but will keep your site saved.. will keep searching… also what are your thoughts on priming canvas first?
Thanks Demetria! And I see you found your answer about priming the canvas ?. Yes most canvases you buy will already be primed.
Can you post some 5×5 ideas?
Thanks
Hi! I love your painting! Do you paint the edges of the canvas when you paint? Or do you leave it plain? Just wondering how you finish it off! Thanks!
Hi Beth! I typically like to paint the edges to give it a more finished look. Sometimes I paint the edges a solid color that matches the painting or I extend the painting to the edges.
Thanks so much for sharing. I’m using the truck pattern for sewing. I’m a beginner sewer and your patterns should do the trick for me.
Hi! I have been doing a few of your pictures and they are really fun. The directions are so easy to follow! I was just wondering if, for the traceables, do I need the graphite paper? Would regular printer paper work fine? Thanks!
Thank you Clara! The printables are all printed on standard computer paper. Graphite paper is for placing underneath the printable and tracing. You can also trace using a light table or simply applying pencil to the back of the traceable and then tracing on the front and it will transfer to the canvas.
Ok, Thanks for answering my question!
I just found your free traceables & tutorials. I’m so excited to start painting on my own! What a great gift you have given me. Thank-you!
